It is with extreme sadness that I announce that the state of Maryland has cancelled the spring athletics season along with the winter basketball championship games. This is extremely heartbreaking as our girls basketball team will not be able to finish their championship run, one I am sure our girls would have completed. I am also heartbroken that all of our spring athletes, especially our seniors will not be able to compete this spring. I was looking forward to seeing Leah Rubino break school scoring records in girls lacrosse before she heads to Butler University. I was excited to see our super freshman Chris Hacopian & senior brother Eddie Hacopian shock the state and show everyone that Churchill baseball is the next great program in the area. I was looking forward to seeing our boys lacrosse team go for a 6th straight Regional title and state tournament participant. A young group of runners on the track team was poised to have a lot of state participants. We had new coaches with boys tennis and girls lacrosse who I was excited to see lead our student athletes. There was just so many great and wonderful things that this spring season would have brought to our athletics program and to all of its participants. From individual performers like Josh Robinson going for an state title in tennis to a softball team looking to win a regional title behind a strong group of seniors. Despite this loss of a season I haven’t been happier with the performance of our student athletes during this difficult time. They have raised money and provided meals to our medical staffs. They have made masks and donated them to our most vulnerable citizens. There are so many great things that have come from these difficult times and I couldn’t be more proud of our athletics program and all those involved for all that they have done for others. So we may have lost a season on the fields and courts but we have gained so much more. We have gained an appreciation for all that we are given. We have gained even more love for our families. We have gained an understanding of the importance to give back & help our communities. We have gained a new appreciation for who we are and why we are here. Continue to gain during this time away Bulldogs and when we come back, we will be better than ever.
Please stay safe and healthy! We can’t wait to see you all soon!
