Boys Varsity Basketball traveled to Salisbury MD over break to take part in the Governor’s Challenger Holiday Tournament. It is the largest holiday tournament in the Country with over 120 teams from 13 states and 2 countries in attendance.
The Boys started the tournament against Carver E & S out of Philadelphia. From the opening tip the boys made a statement to the entire tournament and turned a lot of heads as they compiled one of the tournaments biggest margins of victory (43) as they won 75-32. The next day the competed for the bracket championship against a solid Hammond squad out of Howard Country. It was a back and forth contest with no team having a lead more than 5 and the lead changing hands 4 times in the final minute. In the end the bulldogs prevailed at the buzzer as TJ Richardson hit a streaking David Orta for the game winning layup as time expired. The Bulldogs got key contributions from everyone and were lead throughout the tournament by John Mbeng (42 points, 9 rebounds, 10 steals) TJ Richardson (18 Points, 10 Steals, 6 rebounds), Jomo Goings (30 Points, 6 Steals, 10 rebounds) and David Orta (17 points, 9 rebounds).
