Boys Varsity Swimming, Coed Varsity Swimming · Boys Swim Wins Metros!

This past weekend our Swim & Dive team led by coach Chris Tappis competed and won the Washington Metropolitan Interscholastic Swimming & Diving Championships at the Germantown Indoor Swim Center. The Metro event which features public & private schools from Maryland, DC & Virginia is the premier swim event of the year, even more so than States. The event has been dominated by private schools since 2000. This win was not only a public schools first win since 2000 it was also the first for Churchill since 1989! The Bulldogs scored 324.50 points topping Georgetown Prep by 26.5 points and beating last years champion, Gonzaga by a whopping 93 points! The Dawgs were led by Jr. swimmer Steven Mendley who finished 3rd in both the 100yd freestyle & the 200yd freestyle while anchoring the 400 free relay team that also featured Sanjay Wijesekera, Noah Rutberg, and Tanhung Nguyen to 1st place securing the Metro championship. You’ll find all the meet results for both boys & girls below. Congratulations to our boys on this great win and we look forward to the states! The girls & boys compete next at the Regional meet this weekend at Kennedy Shiver Aquatics Center.
